Day 11: I can use progressively more challenging physical movement breaks. There is evidence that ADHD brains, in particular, have smaller cerebella than do neurotypical brains (read ADHD 2.0 by Drs. Edward Hallowell and John Raley). Balance exercises may help stimulate the cerebellum, helping those students in particular. Besides, balance exercises are probably more fun than the stand-and-stretch ones I normally do! Also, I’ve already begun to challenge kids to breathe more deeply and intentionally than in the past, helping them to better regulate and deal with stress.

Hi, thanks for stopping by!

I'm the founding music teacher at Monarch Academy Glen Burnie, Maryland, USA. I teach Middle School Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Theater, Music Goes Global 6, and Creative Play. I also teach English and Music at the Anne Arundel County Evening and Summer High School eSchool Campuses. The variety of subjects and levels keeps me on my toes mentally and physically, and has brought me in contact with a wide variety of student abilities and needs. I look forward to sharing our teaching journey!

Please keep in touch!
